Don Eugene Freeman is an American photographer. His commercial photography and films explore space and the relationships of light and composition. His early work in New York was formed by his friendships with Ted Muehling, Christina Kim, and Geoffrey Beene. When Paper Magazine asked him to go to Paris to photograph the fashion collections, he stayed and met Interior decorators Andrée Putman, Jacque Grange and TheWorld of Interiors editor Min Hogg, turning his eye to Interiors as well as developing his unique hand-toning black and white photography which he stills incorporates into his work today.
His photography books include The Hotel Book (Tashen 2006/2020), Ted Muehling; a Portrait (Rizzoli) 2008, Artists’ Handmade Houses (Abrams 2011) and Styling Nature (Rizzoli 2019) as well as principle photography for Jonas Upholstery and Thomas Jayne. His films include videos for Sherwin Williams and feature length documentary film Art House (2016) which won many awards and is distributed by First Run Feature Films. And recently Beautiful Ghost for Asiatica, Kansas City and in post productionis a super-8 black and white short film he began in Paris 30 years ago called Tires, Velvet Paws.
